Overview

Kanchanjunga is the world's third highest peak, located in Nepal's easternmost Himalayan range. One of the best trekking experiences in the Himalayas is trekking into the Kanchenjunga region. It's a long trek through Nepal's eastern Himalayan range, which takes you to a remote yet breathtakingly beautiful location. Kanchenjunga circuit trekking is one of Nepal's least visited regions, so you can enjoy the area's majestic beauty without the crowds. Kanchenjunga is one of the most spectacular Himalayan massifs, with a majestic view of the massif's mountain peaks. The Kanchenjunga Circuit Trek is one of the most diverse Himalayan trekking experiences.

Itinerary

Day 01
Arrival in Kathmandu.

Your trip starts today when you arrive at Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu. Upon your arrival, you will be received by our ANA representative at the airport. He'll be carrying an ANA board with your name written on it. Then you will be transferred to the hotel.  After you check into the hotel, our representative will brief you about your trip. Then free till pick up time for the welcome dinner. In your spare time, you can relax, walk around the hotel, go shopping for necessities, and so on.

Day 02
Heritage Tour of Kathmandu.

We take you for a day tour of cultural heritage monuments in Kathmandu valley after breakfast. The tour will give you a mixed insight of history, culture, art, architecture and spirituality of Kathmandu valley. The tour will give you a mixed insight of history, culture, art, architecture and spirituality of Kathmandu valley. The sites include; Swoyambhunath aka Monkey Temple: The oldest of all sites in Kathmandu valley, Swoyambhunath is an important Buddhist spiritual site having the history over two thousand years old. This site has gained a popular name as monkey temple as this small forested hill is a good habitat for hundreds of monkeys. The visit there will heighten your spiritual and cultural experience. Patan City including Patan Durbar Square: A tour to medieval city of Patan gives you a great insight about ethnic Newari culture, Budhhist spirituality, religious harmony, art and architecture while you stroll around the charismatic alleys taking you to magnificent local community squares known as Bahal and eventually leading you to an incredible medieval palace square. The monuments and skill of the local artisans displayed on those monuments in the square will stun you with their unbelievable charm. Boudhanath Stupa: The largest of its kind in the world, this magnificent stupa is a very important center of faith for the people following Tibetan Buddhism. This place is nice Circular Square with the stunning stupa in the middle of it which spreads a lot of spiritual vibrations around the atmosphere.

Day 03
Kathmandu – Bhadrapur – Ilam.

Drive to airport to fly to Bhadrapur in the eastern part of Nepal and then drive to Ilam. Stay overnight in Ilam.

Day 04
Ilam – Mitlung – 921 m.

Take early morning breakfast and drive to Taplejung and start the very first day of trek to Mitlung. Stay overnight in Mitlung.

Day 05
Mitlung – Chirwa – 1270 m.

Trek to the beautiful village of Chirwa through beautiful landscapes of the eastern middle hills. Walk plenty of uphill and downhill trails crossing many different villages and beautiful rural settings. The trek today will be of about 6 hours. Stay overnight in Chirwa.

Day 06
Chirwa – Sukathum – 1660 m.

Start the trek of the day to Sukathum passing through beautiful landscapes. The trek passes through beautiful forested area, villages and river bank on the bank of River Tamor. Reach Sukathum and stay overnight there. The trek today will be of about 6 hours.

Day 07
Sukathum – Amjilossa – 2510 m.

Take your breakfast and start the trek of the day. The trek today will be a little challenging as the trail goes a lot of uphill and downhill trails frequently. It’s a long day as the trek will be of about 7 hours passing carefully through lots of tricky trails. Reach Amjilossa after a long and careful walking day and stay overnight there.

Day 08
Amjilossa – Gyabla – 2730 m.

About 7 hours of trek today takes you to the beautiful village of Gyabla where you will find the ethnic people of Tibetan origin. The trail today passes through beautiful bamboo forest, waterfalls and beautiful landscapes. Reach Gyabla and stay overnight there.

Day 09
Gyabla – Ghunsa – 3595 m.

The first part of the trekking today goes downhill and ascends later. About 6 hours of trekking today takes you to the beautiful Sherpa settlement at Ghunsa. Once you reach Ghunsa, explore and enjoy the Sherpa settlement and culture. Stay overnight there.

Day 10
Acclimatization Day – 3,595 m.

Go for short hiking trip as part of the acclimatizing process. Walk and explore around the area that will expose you to the nature at the elevation of almost 3600 meters above sea level. Stay overnight at Ghunsa.

Day 11
Ghunsa – Khambachen – 4,100 m.

Trek to Khambachen today after your breakfast. The trail passes through beautiful mountain meadows which gives us the beautiful Himalayan floral experience. The trek today also allows us to behold the spectacular mountain view. At one section you have to pass through a landslide as well. After walking for about 6 hours, you arrive at Khambachen. Stay overnight there.

Day 12
Acclimatization Day – 4,100 m.

Another acclimatization day today, so walk around and take short hikes to adjust to the high altitude climate. Overnight at Khabachen.

Day 13
Khambachen – Lhonak – 4785 m.

Start the trek to Lhonak today after your breakfast. The tricky trail leads you to Lhonak today walking past Ramtang monastery and a tricky landslide section. Reach Lhonak and stay overnight there. The trek today will be of about 6 hours.

Day 14
Lhonak – Pangpema 5143 m.

Trek to Pangpema through the Kanchenjunga glacier. Walk even further to the Kanchenjunga base camp and return back to Pangpema where you will spend the night today. From a little higher point at Pangpema you can enjoy the spectacular view of the mountain peaks in the Kanchenjunga massif. Stay overnight at Pangpema. The trek today will be of about 7 hours.

Day 15
Pangpema – Khambachen 4,100 m.

Trek back to Khambachen. Stay overnight there.

Day 16
Khambachen - Ghunsa.

Trek back to Ghunsa and stay overnight there.

Day 17
Ghunsa – Sele Le – 4290 m.

Trek uphill to Sele Le from Ghunsa. The trek today will be of about 7 hours.

Day 18
Sele Le – Cheram – 3870 m.

Enjoy the view of the Himalayan peaks of Makalu and Jannu Himala. After walking for about 7 hours you reach Cheram crossing the Mirgin La and other passes. Stay overnight at Cheram.

Day 19
Cheram – Ramche 4580 m – Cheram.

Trek steep uphill past the Yalung Glacier to reach Ramche to have a spectacular view of the Himalayan range. Walking up through the valley, we reach the point to be wonderstruck by the magnificence of Kanchenjunga and Jannu Himal. Descend back to Cheram and stay overnight.

Day 20
Cheram – Tortong – 2995 m.

Trek down to Tortong from Cheram today after your breakfast. Go past beautiful landscape and rhododendron forest to reach Tortong and stay overnight there.

Day 21
Tortong – Yamphudin – 2080 m.

Today you will have to pass through the area with landslides. After the breakfast this morning, you will start the trek for the day to Yamphudin. The walk today will take you about 6 hours to reach the incredible village of ethnic Sherpas, Rais and Libmbus. Stay overnight in Yamphudin.

Day 22
Yamphudin – Yangpang – 1007 m.

You are descending with a huge elevation change on our descents. Today you will walk down to the elevation of 1007 meters above sea level. The walk today will take you about 7 hours to reach a beautiful village of Yangpang.

Day 23
Yangpang – Thorpu – 1500 m.

Enjoy the beautiful landscape of the eastern middle hills while you trek to Thorpu today. The walk today will take you through some of the amazing villages in the region. Reach Thorpu and stay overnight there.

Day 24
Thorpu – Birtamod – 300 m.

The drive today will take you to a completely different landscape than what you were experiencing for a couple of days now. You will be welcomed by the southern plains of the Terai region. Reach Birtamod and stay overnight in a hotel.

Day 25
Birtamod – Bhadrapur – Kathmandu.

Drive to Bhadrapur airport from Birtamod to take the flight back to Kathmandu. You will have some free time to relax or take a walk around.

Day 26
Departure Day.

We will transfer you to airport for your final departure flight back home or to next destination.

Equipment List

Here’s a complete rundown of what to bring if you’re planning a trek to Everest Base Camp or any other tea-house trek in Nepal.  Proper preparation and equipment for the conditions will go a long way to ensuring you have a great trekking experience.  What follows is a pretty comprehensive list and will make sure you are covered in the coldest months of the year. If you have questions on what you might need just ask us and keep in mind that Kathmandu is a great place to buy trekking gear at affordable prices.


IMPORTANT DOCUMENTS AND ITEMS

  • Valid passport, 2 extra passport size photos, airline tickets
  • Separate photocopies of passport, visa form (easily obtained at Kathmandu airport), proof of insurance
  • Dollars, pounds or Euros in cash for purchasing Nepalese visa at Kathmandu airport, for paying for restaurants and hotels, for gratuities, snacks, and to purchase your own drinks and gifts
  • Credit cards, Bank/ATM/Cash machine cards for withdrawing funds from cash machines (bring a photocopy of your cards), traveler's checks, etc.
